On Dawning:

“as black people continue to push themselves to break boundaries,  documenting our progress is necessary. Moreover, as we continue to define who we are, on our own terms.  It becomes apparent that we all have different experiences, shows like Dawning initiate a dialog between those in the black community who have opposing views as well as inviting those outside to gain a better understanding that, “what it means to be black” is ever changing and without a doubt multi-faceted.  Despite America having its first black man as president, it is vital that shows such as this continue as they bring education and awareness to all people, but most critically opportunity to those of the African Diaspora.”
